While this would be very nice, I've explored it before and found that the costs are much higher than I'm willing to spend. If we really wanted this to work, it would probably have to be basically free since there are so many opportunities for people to work from coffee shops, their own homes, or the library.
I think we should create a free space for just this, especially since I think this would help people most who cannot afford the extra space in their house and need somewhere else to work.

Programming and engagement is probably more important than just the space.
I have brought people over to Bowen for a day trip of "co working" out of the library space. It was great!
I also helped kick off entrepreneur and small business peer support in Comox / Courtenay that worked really well. It started with entrepreneurs getting together and presenting their problems / challenges to the group and getting feedback and suggestions.
I do recommend a membership based model, where people actively choose to become members / pay to support various things.

@Steve Brown I'm thinking about a collaborative working space where people can drop in as needed to get work done. The logistics would all to be worked through. There has been consistent interest in this idea in Community Economic Development meetings in recent years. I imagine the interest is greater now, given more working from home, which isn't always ideal.

@Maureen Nicholson One place I know well is ECTO in Montreal, which is a cooperatively owned workspace. https://ecto.coop/?lang=en
Another which I also have contacts with is The Hub in Mahone Bay, which is very similar to Bowen in a lot of ways. It is located in the basement of their pub, sort of like if we had one on the bottom floor of Docs. I know folks at both these places and people involved in the Impact Hub movement if we want to explore more. These are different from for-profit co-working spaces and they curate community with events and socials and learning workshops as well as providing business space. That model is more in line with CED.
