Green economic development

From "Community Economic Development Plan"

Go to the project

Bowen could support economic development that is environmentally sustainable for the long term by engaging in projects that ensure Bowen remains ecologically viable for future generations. For example, supporting community power generation capability. Bowen is very vulnerable to lengthy power outages - what if communities had the ability to generate use, and store solar or other green energy in our small areas and contribute back to the grid. It could make us more energy independent while generating higher paid jobs for islanders, than what is currently available via tourism etc.

Perhaps this is slightly different than Jennifer meant, however, there is a great film about community-owned energy that gives more ideas to its potential. https://youtu.be/75A9WGxoUn8
